Biography

Livia Stavolone is originally from Italy, where she earned university degree in Agronomy and a joint PhD with the Institut Armand-Frappier (INRS) in Laval, Canada. She did a post-doc at the Friedrich Miescher Institute (Novartis SA Foundation) in Basel, Switzerland and then went back to Italy to build a research group on molecular plant virology at the National Council of Research of Italy.
LS has a long-standing experience in plant virology, molecular biology, protein detection and analysis, and high performance Confocal Laser Scanning and Electron Microscopy.
Her scientific interests concentrate on understanding the way viruses interact with their plant hosts, in particular: on the role and function of virus encoded proteins with a main focus on the mechanism of movement of viruses and virus-derived signals through the plant host; on the molecular bases of virus pathogenesis and plant resistance with major interest in unveiling the role of RNA silencing and DNA methylation in plant response to biotic and abiotic stresses. She is strongly committed to undergraduate and graduated students education.
